"Founded in 1986, Chicago's Greek American Community Services (GACS) was an integral part of the local fabric. Shuttered in 2002, one of Chicago's most important institutions left a proud history of services to the Greek community. That legacy is chronicled in a new book by GACS Co-founder John Psiharis, called "Working to Preserve Our Heritage: The Incredible Legacy of Greek-American Community Services."

"Great book! I like the stories which are enhanced by museum exhibit content, reports, news accounts, and other documents. The chapter on Tornie the cat was touching. I didn't know about CLESE. Great accomplishments!"

"This book captures so much of Greek American Community Services and the legacy it left the community. It is important to know about and learn from their admirable work in cultural programming and social services, and in forging relations with other ethnic groups. As a past donor of GACS who attended several events, I was already familiar with the organization. I had no idea they did so much more! Kudos on a job well done!"

"John, I am so glad that you took the time to document building of our Greek Nursing Home. The accuracy of events and happenings was phenomenal. It brought back so many memories of all our efforts to achieve our dream of housing our elderly. It was our dream come true. Congratulations on a job well done."
Theresa Tzakis: Treasurer of Soteria, board member until recently, of the Greek American Rehabilitation Center.
"Breaking Ground is ground breaking! It is a terrific account of one of the Greek community's most notable achievements, the creation of a nursing home for our yiayias and pappous. I remember how the community came together for this. I also like the pictures."
